    This is one of a series of posts to mark the international Rugby players who served in, and survived, The Great War. If anyone has further information on the men concerned, I’d be most grateful if it could be added to the thread.

    Cave, William Thomas Charles played for England and Great Britain

    Internationals: 1 : 1905 W-

    Great Britain Internationals: 3 : 1903 SA= SA= SA-

    William Cave was born on 24 November 1882

    Played as a Forward for: Tonbridge School, Cambridge University (Blue 1902-1904), Blackheath, Barbarians, Kent

    Profession: Solicitor from 1907; he worked for E F Frazer and Sons from 1912.

    War service: Captain, Inns of Court Regiment and 20th Battalion, The London Regiment; he was taken Prisoner of War on 24 March 1918 and repatriated on 25 December 1918.

    Remarks: He played on the Great Britain tour of South Africa in 1903,– one source indicates that the team wore Cambridge University jerseys without the lion emblem, while another suggests red and white stripes. Played for Barbarians: v Devonport (0-18) v Plymouth (6-15) in 1906.
