I've read this story with my legs crossed (I know this is an old story but it's one of the Top Five most emailed stories on the BBC site).

Well, I have had trouble sitting straight since I read this.

 

Good job he wasn't having an affair or i'm sure she would of had his meat and two veg. Perhaps we men should start wearing ball armour. Poor guy.

Actually, a suit of armour wouldn't have helped at all in this kind of attack. The groin area was its weak spot, and very difficult to protect. A lot of knights wearing plate armour died when they were knocked to the ground, and the local peasants would use daggers and spears to stab upwards in a very nasty spot... at the very least the pain would stop him fighting immediately, and probably he would die from loss of blood when the femoral artery was cut.

Don't think I'd want to survive an attack like that... mg:
