    Came across this page in "Eagle day".

    It seems to have everything.
    A touch of humour.
    An example of how war brutalises the soul.
    The inspiring retort from Churchill, after his witnessing of the selfless spirit and fortitude of the fighter pilots.

    I always assumed that Churchill made his Never in the field of human conflict.... statement after the campaign, near the end of the year.

    Hi Kyt,
    I to, was amazed, that the sensational quote from one of Churchills bolstering speeches, started life as a spontaneous ad. hoc. remark.
    I am sure the casualty figures quoted, refer only to the personal observations of Commandant Smith.
    I haven't had a chance to persue your insertion yet.

    I have two Australians in the RAF listed as killed that day however I have nothing at all on E.H. Ross (DFC)

    For Glyde:

    F/O R.L.Glyde an Australian of No 87 Squadron was shot down and killed on the 13th of August 1940 in his Hurricane I (P3387) by a Ju 88 off Selsey Bill, at 08:00hrs.
