Oh dear. And there was me losing my sense of humour - blame it on being a Sunday Yep, well done. A hybrid jet-piston aircraft, and technically the second jet to fly!! Your go David
It's a B-17 Flying Fortress with modified engines; an XB38. Rather than Wright radials, the engines are Allisons, hence the different cowls. It was a trial and I think only one was built. Cheers Owen
David I've only just noticed your previous post, of six fighters in German markings. They are Spitfires, probably LFIXs or LFXVIs, given the pointed fins, the clipped wings, and the fact that some have teardrop canopies and some don't. No idea why the German markings, but the crosses don't look quite right to me, so I would guess a post-war film, hoping the audience would be fooled by the markings, rather than captured examples during the war. Adrian
Good one Adrian! They are Spitfires from 5 and 17 squadrons painted to look like ME 109's. They are participating at Farnborough in 1950 in a reconstruction of the Mosquito attack on Amiens Jail. Your turn!
Hi All, Here goes! What is the aircraft type and what is the interesting story behind its 'prop'? View attachment 1182 Cheers Owen
Its a Bell P59 Airacomet, the first American jet. The prototype XP59 was originally fitted with a dummy propeller for security reasons. This looks like a modern photo, and I believe the prototype still exists, so presumably they fitted a dummy propellor again.
Hi Adrian, You're right on the money. I took the photo at Chino last year where the aircraft now resides. Cheers and well done. Owen
