All, forgot my favorite POW movie, but mentioned by Spidge. "Stalag 17." Great, great, great. I also agree with War Hawk about "Hogan's Heroes," wonderful. The episode where they convince Hockschteder that the war is over is priceless. Anyone remember "McHale's Navy?" That ranks up there as a very funny series. Fix

I like "When Trumpets Fade" And A "Bridge to Far" and I like "Das Boot". Some of these I already posted that I like them.
GMTA! And I like your taste in movies! I'm older so I liked them before you! eace: If you want to read a great book about the Huertgen Forest (When Trumpets Fade), try to find Paul Bosch's "Road to Hurtgen" (1962). Buy it if you can, because it's a collectible.
My favourite films are; Letters from Iwo Jima Das Boot Cross of Iron A Bridge Too Far These films attempt to focus on the personalities rather than the events. I feel that they are powerful movies with excellent performances from the talented actors.
Yes,very true,it;s great film i have seen it millions of times ande have it on video tape! my love of my life is in that video, the young main german soldier that is the only surving german soldier. Does anyone know anything about that actor? I have only seen him in that midnight clear movie and never saw him again in other movies! I only love and interested in land wars between soldiers. A midnight clear Saints and soldiers Band of brothers Hogan heroes schliers list von ryans express. All quiet on the western front.
My favorite ww2 movies are... Das Boot When Trumpets Fade Letters of Iwo Jima A Bridge to Far Saving Private Ryan and Valkyrie(my favorite of the ones I've chosen)
Hey Christan,i was well awaer that "all quet on the western front" was about ww1 but i thought the thread went any wars!
Saving Private Ryan, When trumpets fade, Saints and Soldiers, Days of Glory. Memphis Belle, Dark Blue World. Das Boot U571 I appreciate the story behind U571 is a perversion, however, if this film is taken as a wartime 'romp' and nothing else it is a good film, and as a side note, it is the most authentic depiction of submarine life I have yet seen - Das boot is inherently accurate also but the technological advances enjoyed in film making (for me) give it the edge.
hey buster. the movie "when trumpits fade" i think i have seen it but not qiute sure, can you give me a quick run down on the movie? i will also check thee net aswell, but you may have more to tell. Cheers.
It opens with a 'rookie soldier' carrying his sergeant back from Hurtgen forest on his back, He rejoins a unit and is very reluctantly promoted and put in charge of a bunch of green recruits. He really wants to be sectioned and released from the army, but he ends up taking more responsibility and moulding himself into his new position as team leader. I think the overall theme is how the ordinary person can be pushed into performing extraordinary deeds in times of need. It is not too glam or glitzy and definately does not have the typical american 'duty-superhero' running through it.
