Haven't had an answer from him yet Spidge. I gather he's quite a busy guy and who could blame him with all that history surrounding him.

G'day all, I have a aquaintence who has put together a site that deals soley with the Australians casualties KIA, WIA , accidents Illness, and Murders etc in the war in viet nam.

I mention this as it may give some ideas for the projects that some of you guys are undertaking.

    ***NOTE EDIT**** 17 August 2009
This site deals solely with the Aussies and Kiwis who were casualties in the war in Viet Nam, 1962-1973
    ***END EDIT****

The Author of site undertook two (2) 12 month tours of Viet Nam, and was a regular soldier for over 20/25 years

Its The Casualty List | Vietnam Veterans Australia & New Zealand .

Even though it deals with a different war that you guys are concentrating on.
Please do not attempt to copy anything from this site as, first it won't work and second, your name*, location & IP address will be automaticly logged, even if you accidently press the right click on mouse this will happen.
If you do somehow copy something with out permission you will end up with legal action and probably will be sued.
Contacting the bloke and asking permission to use any form of his work done on The Casualty List | Vietnam Veterans Australia & New Zealand site is pointless, as permission will not be granted!
However he is open to giving quality advice on general subjects and about how, why and when he did his work.
Good luck to all of you, your projects they are going to be quality work once finished.

Hiya Mike, I am glad to have made contact with you.

As I mentioned this bloke deals solely with Australian Deaths, etc (also NZd'ers under Aussie command) In the War in Viet Nam 1962 through 1973.
I only bought this subject up so you guys could see a version covering deaths etc that is allready up and running.
I understand that the work you and others ore doing is immense. I wish you the best of luck, if you need any photos etc from Inner City Melbourne Cemetary's It would be a pleasure to help out. The cemetaries are StKilda. Caulfield, & Carlton etc.

For contact I can atm only pass on his web site (he has a contact capability on this site) as I'm new here, and don't know anyone well enough to give personal address's out. He is tighter than anything known to mankind* when it comes to his body of work and will not even allow school kids to use his work in assignment's, He is like this because he has been burnt by so called friendly internet fire before
As said it concentrates solely on the war in Viet Nam.
It's up to people like Yourself, Spidge and others to do the World Wars and Korea, Malaya/Indonesia through to Timor and Afghanistan.

I have been considering doing something similar about Aussies in Korea as that is where my main interest is located. And it only covers 300+ deaths, and a thousand or two wounded including my old dad twice. However many were killed in the North alongside the men of the Argyles and Middlesex Btns and their graves would be impossible to find. However the war diaries are available, though what I have read is very limited and it will work out very hard to give grid references. And a lot of body's got left behind on the battle field in the first 8 or 9 months of the war in Korea. The old saying "no one gets left behind" as you would know is "Great to hear" but extremly hard to put in place on a battlefield esp when it would cost more lives in order to gather the dead and in some cases the wounded.

If it's allright with you i may send a message asking some basic questions about how to get myself started on this.
There's a old saying by the weed walkers down here "why jump out of a perfectly good and serviceable aircraft (lol)"? yet they do it anyways,
I take it your knees are growing old after 20+years of Para work.

    Cheers mate

    Hi Cobber,

Good to meet you as well mate. If you need any help in setting up please don't hesitate to ask, i'm sure that Spidge and i will be able to help you as can many other members within the forum. My project covers all Commonwealth Countries from 1914 up to the present day though i don't have a listing as yet except from the CWGC which covers both World Wars.
As mentioned the information i have is available to anyone who wishes to ask for it as long as it is made available to everyone else if and when you build a website, again it must be a free service.
Please feel free to IM me with questions. My knees are fine and in fact will be going on a yomp next weekend up in the Derbyshire Hills. I will have a look and see if there are any casualties i need from the cemeteries you mentioned and send you the details.

    Take care

Contact him and explain exactly what you are doing. His site is free. However it's not capable of copying his site posts as in cut & paste or whatever. Their nothing stopping you from handwriting the details.
He is friendly, even though it doesn't sound so. Mate check out his site then contact him. Tell him exactly what you are doing
The Casualty List | Vietnam Veterans Australia & New Zealand

As I mentioned I placed the link so you guys could see a web site that deals with KIA, WIA, Friendly fire, murders, injury's, illness and so on, that is allready up and running.

I imagine you are concentrating on deaths and not wounds etc as that would be almost impossible for the large armies placed in the field during the Big wars.

After having sometime off due to illness and a new job i am now back up and running with this project. As Kitty says its a pity to waste the imformation and pictures i have so i will be working on a website for the project and getting the pics uploaded onto a server. I also plan to get out and about over the next few months to re-take all the photos i took in Oxfordshire and Berkshire.
If anyone wishes to help with the project, whether as a volunteer photographer or in an admin role please can you contact me with your email address so that i can get you up and rolling as quickly as possible.
