I think that I never saw saving private ryan, I heard it's a really good movie, but that describes the war too closely, too much in detail and to be honest I've seen way too many of those movies.
Some other movies that I really love that are related to war and conflict. Shindlers List, Black Hawk Down, Apocalypse Now, and All Quiet on the Western Front. All great films. Schilnders List in particular is pretty powerful and poignant. Definitely recommend that one over all the others, although none of them are bad by any stretch. Can't go wrong with any of those films.
Apocalypse now is a classic, a really good movie, but I really can't watch the Schindler's list, it's just too heavy movie for me.
I think you are missing out by not watching Schindlers List in it's entirety. It really is a fantastic film. One of the better ones I've ever seen. I can understand it can heavy and depressing. But it's a very rewarding film in my opinion. I think you should give it a shot.
