Hi Kieth. Is that the aircraft in the footage and link i provided in my thread? But i don't know the name, i'm affraid.
What is it ? Hi Heidi, You ask about aircraft in your footage and thread, say again all after Hi Keith. It is a model of an actual aircraft. Clue, you can't leave anything lying around now ! Cheers Keith
It kinds of looks like the German aircraft in the footage link i provided, but i don't know the name. I love ww2 but i am no expert or professinal like you guys and girls are,so i have a limited knowleage. Too me it looks like a Messschmitt or a Focke Wulf Fw-190? Cheers
It is Spitfire EN830 which was captured by the Germans and re-engined with a Daimler-Benz engine. A picture of the real thing:
hey,It is a spitfire,it looks weird in German colorings.Did the Germans ever use this aircraft against other Allied Spitfires?
No it was never used against other Spitfires but was flown for evaluation purposes: Unreal Aircraft - Hybrid Aircraft - Supermarine/Daimler-Benz Spitfire
Would have been fun re-engineering the front end to fit the DB. I wonder how she flew handling-wise...better than a '109 I reckon! DL, Don Bennett. Spot on, mate, well done. Your question. Heidi, if you're interested in some American bombers in German colours, look into KG200.
Also a lot of captured german aircraft were painted in RAF colours and transfered from airfield to airfield for crews and gunners to become familiar with them. However they were always escorted by RAF figthers to prevent them being shot at.
Andy, i will differently check that out. Kitty-Yeah, i knew about English capturing German aircraft but i never seen a Spitfire in German colours. Actually, i don't think i never even seen a German aircraft in British colours! But i have heard about this though.
I am alluding to the fact that the thread has gone off topic. During WW2 bombers often tended to drop their loads a little early, i.e. before they got to their target markers. This was known as "creep" and as such this topic went off target.
I have to hurry before David sees it ........... :cheer2: Athough basically there were only two methods of marking a target - groundmarking and skymarking - marking was technically divided into three main categories: blind groundmarking (Parramatta) visual groundmarking (Newhaven) and skymarking (Wanganui). The explanation of the strange names is simple: Parramatta was (Don) Bennett's hometown; Corporal Ralph, Bennett's personal WAAF, came from Newhaven; and S/Ldr Ashworth was a New Zealander from Wanganui. Serial number wallpaper! Very cool. Love it but the ceiling light really got me excited! The serials look very WWIish/pre-WWII.
