As far as shooting is concerned I would imagine farm boys would use 12 gauge shot guns, or perhaps a .410. Attached is a picture of my Dad (on left) at Skellingthorpe after some rough shooting on the airfield. Always amazes me that they were allowed to posses guns on base.
Some more books, James, now that I'm looking at my shelves: Only Birds and Fools - J. Norman Ashton DFC Five of the Many - Steve Darlow, can't believe I forgot that one! Battle Order 204 - Christobel Mattingley, reads like a novel but is a true story. G-for-George - Michael Nelmes and Ian Jenkins Pathfinder - Denis Warner This thread is like a BC bibliography!
Thanks again very much Andy I purchased "G-for-George" during my visit to the AVM a while ago. It's a great read (even if it only flew 89 ops out of the suppsed 90).
Pilots notes can be found on this thread: http://ww2chat.com/forums/war-air/194-pilots-notes.html And H2S attached
Okay, but it might take sometime, so will have to do it at the weekend, when I have the time. Bang goes my plan for a lazy weekend!
